Fluid Audio Studio Monitors Hit the U.S. Market

Screen Shot 2015-06-27 at 4.23.24 PM

Fluid Audio hits the U.S. this month through a new exclusive distribution deal with Mixware!

Fluid was founded by loudspeaker Engineer, musician and recording enthusiast Kevin Zuccaro. Starting with his first job at JBL in 1990, Kevin developed a passion for audio, and learned speaker development from the ground up. Working on speaker drivers, hi-fi systems and cinema projects gave him a well rounded approach to speaker design, however he would always go home at night, play his guitar and focus on his real passion: Creating music and professional tools that would help him do this. He got his chance at Cerwin-Vega in 1998, working on hi-fi products as well as portable PA, but wasn’t until he came to M-Audio in 2005 where he began to focus solely on powered studio monitors. Managing the entire monitor segment for Avid, he had the freedom to design and voice all of the M-Audio monitors, and learn to better integrate them into the studio workflow. Leaving M-Audio in 2011, Kevin then founded Fluid Audio.

In a word, the design philosophy behind Fluid Audio monitors is optimization – as some like to say “solving problems”. As an Engineer, you are always constrained somewhat by a price point you are trying to hit. Fluid’s idea is to take each part of the monitor, and see how good they can make it for a given price level. Where we think they’ve succeeded in optimization is in the amplifier, port tube and tweeter wave guide – but most dramatically in the voicing (or sound quality).

The studio monitor, like any speaker, is meant to reproduce the entire landscape of the recording (in all 3 dimensions). Fluid prides itself on the importance of speaker imaging – or how the speaker presents a realistic soundstage. When you close your eyes and listen to a pair of speakers, you don’t want to hear two boxes with speakers in them. You want to be transported to the recording, where you can pinpoint exactly where each musician and instrument is on the “stage”. As a recording or mixing Engineer, you want the same in reverse – to be able to place each instrument where you want it to be in the mix.

DJ Tech & Thud Rumble Release the TRX DJ Mixer

dj-qbert-namm-2014-trx.s800x800

TRX_B_angle-300x300The TRX is a 2-channel scratch mixer developed in cooperation with DJ Qbert’s Thud Rumble label. The TRX bridges the gap between analog and digital setups and brings a perfect balance of features at an affordable price.  Available in black and white.

The TRX includes three Mini Innofaders – for the crossfader and two channel faders. The Mini Innofader is designed to last more than 4 million cycles and is buttery smooth. It features on-board calibration, so no matter how long you use and abuse the faders, it will always be possible to recalibrate them later.

Each channel features trim control, 3-band EQ, pan slider, fader reverse and curve adjustment, high/low pass filter slider with reverse switch, DVS send/returns, and direct outputs. Switching between DVS and traditional analog vinyl has never been easier. The DVS send and return connections allow the sound card to be removed while the turntables remain connected to the phono inputs. The direct outputs enable each channel to be recorded independently into a DAW or multitrack recorder, so the mix can be edited and mixed down later.

Arturia V Collection Classics : The Sounds That Changed The World

Screen Shot 2015-06-04 at 9.37.26 AM

Now it is more affordable than ever to explore the world of Arturia’s virtual synthesizers! V Collection Classics is an introductory package that includes the full versions of 5 of our most popular instruments and access to thousands of sounds from the full V Collection for only $199!

Experience the power of our TAE® analog modeling software and your music will never be the same. These legendary instruments will become the foundation for your sound palette for years to come.

5 full software instruments plus Analog Lab!

ARP 2600 V
Its sound has been heard on songs like Frankenstein and as the voice for R2D2, its distinctive colors have shared the stage with artists like Joe Zawinul, and its studio credits range from Stevie Wonder and the Jackson 5 to Nine Inch Nails and Owl City. It’s bright, fat and enhanced, Arturia-style. And yours in V Collection Classics.
Mini V
Soaring leads. Clangorous bells. THE bass. The Minimoog has a reputation as one of the most versatile and powerful synthesizers ever made. And our award-winning mini V takes it to new heights with massive polyphony, formant filters, and modulation routings modeled after the Memorymoog.

Jupiter-8V
The Jupiter-8 was one of the first synths that could split its keyboard, allowing a fat bass on the left side and powerful brass on the right. Simple to program and a feast for the ears, it has been used by artists like Toto, Journey, Rush and Devo. And we’ve beefed up the polyphony and the features to make its crystalline sweetness even sweeter.

Prophet-V
The Prophet 5 was first to offer presets that stored every parameter. Its sound was halfway between a Minimoog and an Odyssey, it let you play 5 notes at once, and it fit under your arm. Add the Prophet VS, with X-Y morphing of its glassy sounds, expand the polyphony and features, and you have our Prophet-V.

Oberheim SEM V
The Oberheim SEM started out as a single-voice expander and a sequencer slave, and its unique features and sound led to a demand for keyboard models with 2, 4, and eventually 8 voices. No other synth at the time offered such a streamlined and powerful front panel, and its multi-mode filter truly made this little synth stand out among its competitors.

Analog Lab
Analog Lab is at the heart of V Collection Classics. It has over 6000 sounds from the full V Collection so you can explore the entire set of instruments, with full editing of the 5 included synths. Imagine having all of that power at your fingertips! And there are many options to sort, filter and combine the presets to help you find the exact sound you need for your project fast.

D.A.S. Launches New Vantec Series Portable Systems

vantec_en

The Vantec Series (expected in the US by April) is comprised of four models, available in both powered and passive configurations. Two 2-way models are available with either a 12- or 15-inch woofer, a 3-way model incorporates dual 15-inch woofers in a “dual-band” configuration, and a subwoofer is equipped with a single 18-inch woofer.

All models incorporate the company’s new F Series drivers that deliver enhanced performance and reliability. The new M-28 compression driver has an FEM (Finite Element Modeling) optimized motor, phase-plug and diaphragm. Attached to the D.A.S.-designed constant directivity horn, the assembly provides exceptional high-frequency reproduction and tight control of the 90- by 50-degree dispersion.

The Vantec 12A offers a 12-inch F Series woofer, and it’s biamplified, powered by a 2-channel amplifier providing 1,500 watts of continuous power. Frequency response is stated as 60 Hz to 20 kHz, with maximum peak SPL of 135 dB. The Vantec 15A, equipped with a 15-inch F Series woofer, has a stated frequency response of 45 Hz to 20 kHz.

The Vantec 215A, loaded with twin 15-inch F Series woofers, carries a 3-channel amplifier offering 750 watts per channel of continuous power, for a total of 2,250 watts continuous. It’s dual-band configuration has each woofer operating in a specific frequency range.

The Vantec 18A has a single 18-inch F Series woofer driven by a 2,000-watt (peak) Class D amplifier with switch-mode power supply and digital signal processing. The amp has a unique EQ switch that allows selection of a “Deep” or “Loud” bass response.

The Vantec 18A also includes two balanced inputs with stereo filtered output connections for satellite systems. The variable crossover ranges from 80 Hz-125 Hz, and can be defeated to offer stereo “loop thru” connections. A gain control and polarity reverse feature increase user control.

Rear/Side shot of the Vantec 12a

Signal processing for Vantec Series models is accomplished by a powerful DSP that includes. Digital Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filtering. Users can select configurations from a wide range of voicing, filter and EQ modes, and gain control by way of a rotary-knob interface and LCD screen on the rear of the cabinet. Bluetooth technology allows users to wirelessly stream music from any Bluetooth-enabled device.

Cabinets are constructed of birch plywood covered with a durable ISO-flex coating. Both the 12-inch and 15-inch 2-way systems have dual angle pole mount sockets (0 and 10 degrees), as well as angled side panels for stage monitoring applications. Rigging points, ergonomic handles with rubber inserts, and a rugged front grille provide for a wide range of uses in both portable and installed applications.
