Streetwise Welcomes Sontronics

Back in 2004, musician and audio enthusiast Trevor Coley decided to pursue his dream of creating a range of microphones that delivered professional-quality results at truly affordable prices.

He began sketching out designs for innovative-looking mics with classic styling and a unique sound too, thanks to our signature smooth high-frequency rolloff that you’ll find in all of our mics, from the most affordable dynamic to our top-of-the range models.

The Sontronics brand was launched at the NAMM Show in Los Angeles in January 2005 where we showed  our first range of condenser mics. Many of these mics, including Orpheus, STC-1 and STC-2, ended up becoming best-sellers and remain in our range today.

Sontronics has since grown from strength to strength and our products now include studio condensers, mono and stereo ribbons, valve and dynamic microphones, including our world-beating Podcast Pro, as well as must-have accessories such as our ST-POP popshield, XLR-USB cable and Elevate desktop stand.

Our mics can be found in some of the biggest and best studios and sound stages as well as in radio stations, home studios, educational establishments and podcasting set-ups all round the world.

All our products are designed and developed here on the south coast of England by our founder Trevor Coley, and all our new prototype models are put through rigorous beta-testing with top British producers including Flood (U2, Editors, The Foals) and Paul Epworth (Adele, Coldplay, U2) as well as several engineers at Abbey Road Studios.

The majority of our microphones are also made here in the UK  with all of our top-end mics fitted with circuits made to our proprietary designs and hand-wound transformers manufactured within 2 miles of our door.

We are proud to be spear-heading innovations in electronics engineering and product design right here in Dorset.

Our best-selling STC-1 is a small-diaphragm condenser mic, ideally suited to recording instruments of any kind and will deliver consistently outstanding results.

Thanks to its three-stage filter and pad controls, the Sontronics STC-1 is one of the most flexible microphones in its class, regularly outperforming and outclassing pencil mics that cost many times more.

Available in silver or black, the STC-1 makes an indispensable addition to any mic locker, thanks to its ability to capture stunning performances from woodwind, strings, percussion, brass, guitar and other strummed instruments.

STC-1 has also become a go-to for field recording, foley/sound effects, video and film work.

A founder member of our line-up since we launched Sontronics back in 2005, the STC-2 is a worldwide best-seller and has become a must-have mic in studios around the world thanks to its incredible accuracy, smooth performance and superb clarity.

Now available with must-have accesssories – shockmount, nylon-mesh popshield, XLR cable and zip-up pouch – this large-diaphragm condenser mic has a fixed cardioid pattern and is ideally suited to vocals, voiceover and acoustic instruments, from acoustic guitar and piano to brass, woodwind and strings, but can also be used in pairs for all kinds of stereo applications.

STC-2’s evenly balanced frequency response results in rich, defined lows and a detailed, open top end, accurately reproducing your source in all its glory.

Like all our condenser mics, STC-2 features our signature smooth high-frequency roll-off, ensuring a natural top end and a recording that sits perfectly in the mix.

Podcast Pro

Sontronics Podcast Pro is a professional dynamic microphone, hand-built in the UK, specifically developed to give incredible results for podcast as well as radio broadcast, gaming, streaming, vlogging, video calls and music.

If you need to record, broadcast or capture vocals of any kind, Podcast Pro is the mic for you.

Thanks to its tightly focused supercardioid pickup and excellent side rejection,  Podcast Pro will reproduce your voice with outstanding detail, presence and depth without capturing any extraneous background noise.

Its high output level means that, unlike all the other podcast mics on the market, Sontronics Podcast Pro doesn’t require extra signal-boosting devices or any processing with expensive plug-ins.

The mic’s internal protection and built-in popshield provide superb control over sibilance (eg: S, CH, Z) and plosives (B, P), ensuring the best possible results wherever you are and whatever you’re doing.

Delta 2

A must-have for guitarists and brass players alike, the Sontronics Delta 2 is the successor to the original Delta, which was our first ever ribbon mic designed specifically to handle high-SPL sources such as guitar amps, sax and brass.

Perfect for studio as well as live use, the phantom-powered Delta 2 delivers all the intimate tone and subtlety you’d expect from a ribbon microphone while being rugged enough to capture powerful signals without overloading or clipping.

A favourite with many guitarists and instrumentalists – from Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien to the brass players of the London Metropolitan Orchestra – Delta 2 will guarantee amazing results, whether you’re in the studio or on the road.

Apollo 2

Our gorgeous Apollo 2 is a beautiful sounding stereo ribbon microphone that has become, like the original Apollo before it, a must-have for studios, composers, venues and sound stages all round the world, from Glyndebourne to Hollywood.

Hand-crafted in the UK using the highest quality components including a hand-wound transformer and cutting-edge laser-welding technology, Apollo 2 will guarantee astonishing results, whatever and wherever you’re recording.

With its two highly sensitive ribbon motors set in X-Y Blumlein formation, Apollo 2 will capture a truly stunning and superbly accurate three-dimensional image, picking up every detail of your recording space and your instruments or voices.
