D.A.S. Audio :: Sound Force Series

Sound Force

DAS Audio’s Sound Force loudspeaker range targets high-level dance venues with high-quality sound, high power and striking visual design.

The new series presently comprises of four models including mid-high, mid bass, and subwoofer options. The SF-112 is a mid-high three-way cabinet, which offers passive or bi-amp operation. Mid-range is handled by a DAS 12HQ loudspeaker and HF by a DAS M-75N neodymium compression driver (as used in a number of high-profile DAS systems). Both components are mounted to fiberglass horns with a quality ‘polished’ finish. The ultra-high frequencies are handled by twin bullet-type tweeters mounted on supports.

The SF-215 bass system uses two DAS 15-inch loudspeakers in a fourth-order, bass-reflex configuration. The cabinets can be stacked or flown on both sides of the SF-112 to form a four-way array. Two subwoofer options are available in the Sound Force series. The SF-221, a double 21-inch subwoofer comprising twin 21LXN4 loudspeakers in ‘V’ loaded configuration and the impressive SF-30A, a powered ultra-low system. The SF-30A uses a 30-inch push-pull moving magnet transducer powered by a class-D amplifier offering 7.5kW continuous power.

Cabinet construction is of birch plywood in a robust build and covered with durable ISO-flex coating. Twenty M10 threaded rigging points are available on the SF-112 and SF-215 cabinets to facilitate flying.

Fluid Audio launches the Fader Coax Pro FPX7 Studio Monitor

Fluid-FPX7

Building upon the acclaimed and well received Fader Series studio monitors, Fluid Audio launches
the FPX (Fader Pro Coax) series. The new FPX-7 Studio Reference Monitor, featuring the world’s first coaxial driver with ribbon tweeter, leads the way.

The Fluid Audio FPX7 produces the most accurate monitoring experience in it’s price range. With it’s lightning fast response, the AMT (ribbon) tweeter provides detail and depth only seen in Professional studios. What makes the FPX7 so unique, however, is that the AMT tweeter is mounted in the center of the woofer, which makes this speaker the first of it’s kind.

Coaxial drivers provide accuracy and detail because all the frequencies radiate from the exact same position in space. This is critical for accurate off-axis response, as well as phase coherence. The AMT tweeter is mounted to a custom designed waveguide, which provides wide dispersion and an expansive sweet spot. The complex, DSP controlled crossover provides a perfect blending of the woofer to the AMT tweeter, and ensures that there is effectively zero variance speaker-to-speaker. The “engine” is DSP powered.

“Ribbon tweeters have certainly been used in studio monitors before. It’s a perfect use for them, actually.
However, I’ve never been that impressed by previous executions of the idea. I’ve always felt I could do a
ribbon monitor that sort of set the standard for ribbon monitors, and I believe this coax idea does that.
You get the lightning fast response of the ribbon, and the point-source goodness of being coaxial. As a
recording musician myself, I was always a little frustrated with the way a lot monitors would ‘Hi-Fi-ize’ my
live recordings. I would record something live in a room, but played back through the monitors, it already
sounded kind of slow and dull. With our new AMT ribbon tweeter, you get that immediate, live sound that
you recorded. That, coupled with the low distortion woofer and great off axis response of the FPX7, you have
a clear, honest view into your mixes,”
says Bill Loney of Fluid Audio.

Arturia Presents MatrixBrute – Analog Avant-Garde

Analog Avant-Garde

MatrixBrute is arguably the most powerful analog monophonic synthesizer ever ! As flexible as a modular system but offering presets, MatrixBrute is a dream machine for everyone interested in creating a sound palette of their own.

The Arturia MatrixBrute will be available in the US in April/May… more info below.

When was the last time you felt your heart beating faster?
When was the last time you heard sounds you had never heard before?
When was the last time you met an instrument that truly inspired pleasure and creativity?

MatrixBrute is an outstanding analog synthesizer. Offering three Brute oscillators, a Steiner-Parker filter and a ladder filter, five analog effects, and the incredible modulation matrix. It is a massive sonic beast.

The heart of the MatrixBrute is its unique modulation matrix that allows you to create your own routings. You can invent a sound palette of your own that will be sure to be heard in any mix !

The matrix can also be used to recall your presets. So go on stage, and select any of the 256 presets instantly! No menus or awkward selection screensscreens, everything is at your fingertips.

As if it was not enough, the matrix is also made to program and play sequences. This is no ordinary step-sequencer. With its ability to also be used as a modulation source, sounds evolve in melody and texture, just the way you want.

Sound beyond the power

Offering a audiosignal path that is is 100% analogue, MatrixBrute also features true analogue effects. The MatrixBrute gives you the sonic quality and power of a vast modular synthesizer but with the flexibility of presets along with a great arpeggiator and an advanced sequencer.

MatrixBrute is a truly empowering instrument!! It offers tons of connections so you can work in any set-up. It brings a quality keybed and a solid chassis.

No endless menus or screens to navigate or multi-function buttons to remember. Forget about connectivity issues. This is you in control. This is you inventing sounds. This is analog avant- garde.

Hands-On Heaven

Forget about tiny LCD screens, being lost in menus and sub-menus, and trying to remember double functions and complex procedures. MatrixBrute brings back the fun and the immediate hands-on experience of synthesis.

When you want things to shake, grab the Sub Osc slider and bring it on. When you want it to sizzle, grab the filter knob and open it up. And when it’s time to unleash the beast, grab the Brute Factor™ knob and turn it loose! It’s that easy.

1. Three Analog Oscillators:

Sawtooth, Pulse, Triangle, waves with the unique waveshapers that have become the trademark of the ‘Brute’ sound. There is also a sub-oscillator on each of the two Brute oscillators.

2. Combination VCO/LFO oscillator:

The third Osciallator can be used for both audio signals and LFO modulation at the same time. You do not have to choose either operation here so you can always have that big 3 oscillator sound.

Store and recall your favorite sounds at the touch of a button. You can organize, save and load new banks of sounds using the free MIDI Control Center editor application. We deliver MatrixBrute with 128 factory presets.

14. The Matrix

The matrix is the heart of Matrixbrute. It allows for complex modulation routing, step-sequencing and instant preset recall.

Modulation Routing: You can assign any of 16 modulation sources to any of 16 mod destinations. 4 destinations are user programmable and can be seen in the e-ink display. Set amounts of each modulation routing using the data encoder.

Step Sequencer: The matrix can be used as a 64 step sequencer with separate STEP, ACCENT, SLIDE and MODULATION steps.

Preset Recall: In Preset mode the matrix allows you to recall any of 256 presets at the touch of a button.

Fluid Audio Studio Monitors Hit the U.S. Market

Screen Shot 2015-06-27 at 4.23.24 PM

Fluid Audio hits the U.S. this month through a new exclusive distribution deal with Mixware!

Fluid was founded by loudspeaker Engineer, musician and recording enthusiast Kevin Zuccaro. Starting with his first job at JBL in 1990, Kevin developed a passion for audio, and learned speaker development from the ground up. Working on speaker drivers, hi-fi systems and cinema projects gave him a well rounded approach to speaker design, however he would always go home at night, play his guitar and focus on his real passion: Creating music and professional tools that would help him do this. He got his chance at Cerwin-Vega in 1998, working on hi-fi products as well as portable PA, but wasn’t until he came to M-Audio in 2005 where he began to focus solely on powered studio monitors. Managing the entire monitor segment for Avid, he had the freedom to design and voice all of the M-Audio monitors, and learn to better integrate them into the studio workflow. Leaving M-Audio in 2011, Kevin then founded Fluid Audio.

In a word, the design philosophy behind Fluid Audio monitors is optimization – as some like to say “solving problems”. As an Engineer, you are always constrained somewhat by a price point you are trying to hit. Fluid’s idea is to take each part of the monitor, and see how good they can make it for a given price level. Where we think they’ve succeeded in optimization is in the amplifier, port tube and tweeter wave guide – but most dramatically in the voicing (or sound quality).

The studio monitor, like any speaker, is meant to reproduce the entire landscape of the recording (in all 3 dimensions). Fluid prides itself on the importance of speaker imaging – or how the speaker presents a realistic soundstage. When you close your eyes and listen to a pair of speakers, you don’t want to hear two boxes with speakers in them. You want to be transported to the recording, where you can pinpoint exactly where each musician and instrument is on the “stage”. As a recording or mixing Engineer, you want the same in reverse – to be able to place each instrument where you want it to be in the mix.
